Conversion of color from one color space to another

Moving color from one space to another is both the necessity and the difficulty of making excellent color separations. In some cases the conversion of color is damaging to the image in that it compresses the tonal scale, or discards color components that are not within the mathematical gamut of the new color space. In other cases color conversion is harmless and can be reversed without mathematical losses

Numerous programs exist for the conversion of color from one space to another; none is exact and none is perfect. With close attention to detail and with an eye toward careful calibration of the process, the conversion can be both pleasing and successful.
